- Do I need a bank account to use the Western Union® service?
Western Union® does not require credit cards, bank accounts, memberships or citizenship papers. Customers receiving funds only need a proper form of identification. However, in certain circumstances, sending customers may need to furnish identification or other information to meet government requirements.
- What currencies can I send via Western Union®?
It depends on the country you are at. For example, from the U.S, you can only send U.S. Dollars.
- How do I send money at a Western Union® Agent location?
A customer completes a simple, “To Send Money” form at a Western Union® Agent location. · The agent collects the transfer amount plus fee, and processes the transaction. · The sender receives a Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) to monitor the status of the transaction.
- How do I send money over the telephone or on the Internet?
You will need a U.S.-based credit card to send your money over the phone or online. In the UK, to send money over the telephone, call Fexco UK CSC and follow the operator's instructions. Click here to send money online. Other fees may apply.
- What is the MTCN and why do I need it?
The Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) is a number printed out on your receipt that helps Western Union® track your transaction and is also important for you to track the transaction either over the phone or online. The Sender may give this number to the receiver so he can more easily pick up the money at the destination location.
- How can I ensure my money transfer process runs smoothly?
First, make sure you supply your correct contact details in case Western Union® needs to contact you. Secondly, make sure to have your recipient's full name and address correct so they will not have any problems in picking up the money with their identification card. Communicate the MTCN number to your recipient to ease the pick-up process.
- How can I pay for a Western Union® Money TransferSM transaction?
All Western Union® Money TransferSM transactions from agent locations must be paid in cash. Transactions originated by telephone – 1-800-CALL-CASH® – and over the Internet, are paid for (principal and fee) via credit card. https://wumt.westernunion.com/asp/mtReceiver.asp

- How do I receive money at a Western Union® Agent location?
The receiver completes a “To Receive Money” form at any Western Union® Agent location and provides proper identification (i.e. Passport, driver's license, NIC – National ID Card) · Agent pays funds to recipient.
- In what form is my money delivered to my recipient?
Payment is made in cash at agent locations.
- What type of exchange rate does Western Union® applies to its transactions?
In addition to the transfer fees applicable to this transaction, a currency exchange rate set by Western Union will be applied. The exchange rate applied by Western Union® provides customers with less foreign currency per dollar than Western Union® receives when it obtains foreign currency. The exchange rate varies throughout the day. The rate may be set at the time of pick up, call Western Union® Agent in your country for an estimated foreign exchange rate.
- Will my receiver have to pay any charges on the money sent?
No. The sender pays all fees.
